5/11/2009 - Save Thousands on Your Batteries - Midwest Outdoors

My trolling motor batteries have finally reached retirement age. They've probably been looking forward to this the entire six years I've employed them because I've pushed them to work their hardest day after day. I'm a fishing guide so there are no weekends off for those boys, just work, work, work. These batteries work hard but they're low maintenance, I don't have to wipe them down to prevent acid corrosion, I don't have to give them water, I don't have to coddle them, I don't have to do much of anything except work them. Why would deep cycle batteries work that hard without complaint and last that long - an incredible six years where most last only a year or two? Simple, when I signed them on I gave them their bonus on the first day of work, a healthy dose of Thermoil Battery De-Mister.

Regular readers of this column know that every spring I try to save readers money by stumping the virtues of Thermoil's two products, Battery De-Mister and Battery De-Sulfater. If your deep cycle batteries go through constant draw down and recharging and last for years and years you don't need to read any further. If, as used to be the case with me, you get a good year out of your new deep cycle battery and less than 100 percent performance from the second year and then have to replace the battery with a new one, you're throwing money away. Lots of money. Deep cycle trolling motor batteries now run from $100 to over $300. A bottle of Battery De-Mister cost $14.95 and will take care of one battery. De-Mister virtually eliminates gassing, which causes corrosion, and the frequent need to add water to the cells. It also prevents the sulfating that keeps your battery from accepting a full charge. The trio of gassing, corrosion and sulfation is what limits your battery's life span. Prevent those and your batteries last three to four times longer than untreated batteries. But don't take my word for it, I implore you not to just blow this article off. Go to the Thermoil website at http://www.batteryde-mister.com to learn everything you need to know. I especially recommend you read the two articles under the heading "Irrefutable Proof" and watch the 30-second video titled "How it Works." If you aren't online you're still only a phone call away from saving a lot of money, just dial 1-800-221-5351.

Speaking of saving money, let's go back to the numbers. I used to have to replace my trolling motor batteries every spring because I fish a lot and recharge my batteries after every outing. Then I discovered Thermoil and I've been using it in my trolling motor batteries for the past 11 years. Let's take my latest set of two batteries I use in my 24-volt system. As a result of using Thermoil De-Mister they've lasted me six years. If I'd replaced them each year with a decent middle of the road battery at $150, as I had to in the bad old days, it would have cost me $900. Two bottle of Thermoil Battery De-Mister costs $29.90. I'll let you finish the math, I have a retirement party to attend. I'll get a gold watch for each battery plus an "atta-boy" certificate.
